Asset Protection Planners vs. Blake Harris Law: How to Compare

A side-by-side comparison built from each firm's own published words: how it describes itself, how it prices a Cook Islands trust, and who it serves.

Blake Harris, Managing Attorney at Blake Harris LawBlake Harris · Florida Bar #86486, Colorado Bar #459427 min read

Asset Protection Planners and Blake Harris Law both set up offshore asset protection trusts, including Cook Islands trusts. The differences a buyer can check are in what each firm publishes about itself, which covers (a) how it describes itself, (b) how it prices a trust, (c) the asset level it invites, and (d) the range of structures it offers.

This page sets those side by side, using each firm's own published words as of October 23, 2026. It then sets out the checks that apply to any provider, this firm included.

The Two Firms, Side by Side

Every entry in the right-hand column is the firm's own published wording, quoted from its website on October 23, 2026.

A table of published claims has limits. It shows what each firm says, not how either performs, and it must not be read as a ranking.

What the Two Firms Share

More than the names suggest. Both set up offshore trusts in the Cook Islands, both offer a free first consultation, and both say that non-attorney staff work alongside their lawyers.

Both also list accounting fees for the trust's yearly filings, paid to a CPA in addition to the firm's own fees. Blake Harris Law estimates that cost at about $2,000 to $3,000 a year.

That common ground is why the comparison turns on how each firm publishes its terms, rather than on the trust itself.

Where They Differ

There are three differences a reader can verify without speaking to either firm.

First, price. Blake Harris Law publishes one figure for one structure. Asset Protection Planners publishes ranges and recommends a quote, which it ties to the trust's complexity, the assets involved and the speed of set-up. A fixed price is usually easier to compare. A quote may suit an unusual case that a set figure does not. Neither approach is, on its own, a reason to choose a firm.

Second, the asset level. Asset Protection Planners invites inquiries from people with more than $500,000 to protect. Blake Harris Law's guide is a net worth above about $2 million, because below about $1 million the yearly fees usually outweigh what an offshore trust protects. Which threshold fits a particular person generally depends on the exposure as much as on the amount.

Third, scope. Blake Harris Law offers a single product, the Cook Islands Trust. Asset Protection Planners' website describes a wider menu, including land trusts, LLCs, equity stripping and trusts in more than one jurisdiction. A wider menu may offer more options. A single product can make the terms easier to check.

None of the three settles the choice for a particular person. They are the questions to ask both firms.

How to Compare Any Asset Protection Provider

The checks below apply to every provider, this firm included.

  • Who drafts the trust. Ask for the name of the licensed attorney who will draft and sign off the trust deed, then look that person up in the state bar's directory, for example the Florida Bar member search.
  • The full price. Ask for the set-up fee, the yearly fee and what each covers, including the trustee, the Protector and the CPA. The lifetime cost is the figure worth comparing.
  • Who the trustee is. Ask which licensed Cook Islands trust company will hold the assets, and who owns it. For new engagements, Blake Harris Law recommends Atlas Trust Company, a licensed Cook Islands trustee co-founded by Blake Harris.
  • What happens when a claim arrives. Ask how the trust is built to respond, including whether it has a duress clause.
  • Timing. Ask whether any claim already exists. A provider willing to fund a trust after a claim arises, without explaining the timing rules, is a reason for caution.

The questions to ask before you set up an offshore trust go further.

The Bottom Line

Both firms set up Cook Islands trusts. What separates them, on their own published words, is how each prices its work, the asset level it invites and how many structures it sells.

Those are differences of approach. Whichever firm a reader speaks to, the same three questions generally apply. Which attorney drafts the trust, what is the full yearly cost, and who holds the assets?
